Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi is a 2017 American science fiction film written and directed by David Mayer. It was directed and written by Ryan Johnson.
The film is the eighth installment in the Star Wars series and the second installment in the Sequel series. The film tells the story of the galaxy facing a new threat 30 years after the fall of Darth Vader and his empire.Like its predecessor, the film depicts a confrontation between resistance forces fighting for peace in the galaxy and First Order, which threatens it. Along with the activities of the newly emerged characters, the new appearance of the existing characters is also shown.
The movie was a box office hit with more than $1.3 billion in revenue worldwide. In addition, it received favorable reviews for its work and won the Visual Effect Award and Editorial Award at the 90th Academy Awards.
Plot
GoResistance forces suffer heavy damage from First Order attacks, ask galaxy exiles for help. Ray receives Force training from Luke Skywalker, but Luke refuses to fight against the threat of first order.
Meanwhile, First Order prepares to attack the Resistance's hidden base. Ray goes to Luke's hometown of Arctus to persuade Luke.
Ray's training
Ray receives force training from Luke, but Luke does not treat Ray simply as a Jedi trainee. Luke teaches Ray the true meaning of Force, and Ray realizes that he has to realize Force himself.
First Order Attack
First Order launches Starkiller base to attack the Resistance's hidden base. Resistance forces try to activate the shield of the Last Jedi to prevent First Order attacks.
Ray's choice
Ray decides to fight the First Order at Luke's persuasion. Ray fights against First Order with Luke's lightsaber.

The Resistance activates the shield of the Last Jedi and prevents the First Order from attacking. Ray, Luke, Finn, and Poe defeat First Order, save the galaxy.

The film depicts the resistance's victory in fighting against the threat of first order through the performances of Ray, Luke, Finn, Poe, and kyloren. Also, the movie shows new aspects of existing characters.
Luke is no longer portrayed as a legendary Jedi master, but as a human being who grows through mistakes and failures. Kyloren tries to succeed Darth Vader as Lord of the Sith, but is eventually saved by the love of Ray and Luke.
Evaluation
Personally, I enjoyed Star Wars: Episode 8 - The Last Jedi. The splendid visuals and action of the movie, as well as the moving story and the performance of the new characters, were very impressive. Especially, the ending of the movie was very shocking and touching.
Of course, I can understand the point that the ending of the movie was too sudden. Also, it makes sense to point out that some scenes are too similar to the previous one. However, despite these shortcomings, Star Wars: Episode 8 - The Last Jedi set a new direction for the Star Wars series, and I think it's worth it enough.
